"Best pub grub around Bedford"

On a hectic Saturday we dropped in for dinner. Small party of three of us. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. As a starter, the cauliflower fritters, with curry sauce, were superb. Lovely chicken, ham and leek pie to follow and rounded off with a creme brulee and fruit compote. Washed down with a couple of bottles of beautifully smooth Rioja (one just wasn't enough) we returned home slowly but happily.

Homemade and locally sourced

We source all our main ingredients from local suppliers: vegetables, fruits and salads from farm produce in Bedfordshire; meat, poultry and game from butchers in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire; and fresh fish from a company also based in Hertfordshire.

With very few exceptions, for example, scampi, we do not serve food cooked or reheated from frozen.  Our chef, Andy Wray, prepares and cooks ahead, and cooks dishes for service, for instance, pies, curries and risotto, to order, according to customer demand.

We buy in ingredients, not meals or components thereof.  Our food is genuinely homemade, not just home cooked, right down to each and every dessert we offer.

Allergens

All our food is prepared in a kitchen in which nuts, cereals containing glutens and other foods known to cause allergic reactions may be present.  Our menu descriptions do not include all ingredients.  Please let us know before ordering if you have a food allergy or intolerance.  Full allergen information for food and drink is available upon request.
